Tell Us About How You First Met!

Bride-to-be: How we first met. Well, all throughout high school I thought I wanted to go away for college and dorm but as time came closer to start sending out college applications. I felt like I just needed to be home and I couldn’t bring myself to want to leave anymore. Family is a huge key in my life too and I had a hard time straying from them as well. I also had Mohawk Valley Community College’s track and field coach scouting me at my high school track meets my senior year and I thought “perfect”! I really didn’t want to waste a ton of money going to a big school when I knew I could just attend a community college and get my degree in nursing for so much cheaper. So then college came and I was on the indoor track team and loved it. That ended and the outdoor track season was upon us and I believe it was the very first practice, I went and got my pole vaulting pole and headed over to the mat to practice and there was some (really cute) new guy pole vaulting so I immediately put my pole down and dodged going over there to practice because I was insanely shy and couldn’t bring myself to go over and say hi. So, I headed over to my friends who were practicing high jump like 25 feet away and I could not stop glancing over at him. One of my friends finally told me to just go over and introduce myself and stop being a baby so I did! Well I tried.. lol. Instead I just walked over and picked up my pole and headed to my mark to practice a vault and walked right past him acting like I didn’t even acknowledge him. Literally shaking because I was so nervous. So I vaulted, made myself look like a complete fool while doing it probably because I was too busy focusing on my nerves! So he walks over!! Now I’m totally freaking out inside. He asks me “do you want me to get your steps?” Because he obviously saw me totally mess up on my vault lol. I said “no that’s okay!” And walked away. I finally ended up relaxing a bit and opening up and we actually had a conversation and we ended up becoming track team best friends!!! Later on we found out we were accepted into the same nursing program for the following fall which we hadn’t even known the other person applied for and I just felt like meeting him was fate!

Groom-to-be: Sam and I first met on MVCC’s track team. We were both pole vaulters however my first practice I was the only one vaulting. When Sam walked into the athletic center and saw this new kid vaulting she was to nervous to come over, so she sat over by the high jump mat until the very end of practice. The last five minutes of practice she came over and tried a run through and failed miserably. I offered to help her with her jump (take her steps) and she giggled fumbled over some of her words and then left.

Tell Us About When You Knew You First Wanted To Spend The Rest Of Your Life With The Other

Bride-to-be: I probably figured this out when we were away at nationals for track. 4 months after meeting, but not even dating yet!!! Call me crazy! He texted me the night before and asked me what kind of snacks I liked because he was going to pick us up some for our trip. We had so much fun on the bus trip there, we were just being goofy and I just felt this huge connection with him. Then while at the meet he gave me all sorts of advice for my events I was in which I always appreciated. Towards the end of the meet we kind of opened up about our feelings toward each other to a mutual friend who of course relayed the message to us (thank god) because I’m pretty sure that’s what we needed since we were both pretty bad at showing or explaining how we felt to each other. We ended up getting dinner with our friend later on, walking to the mall and got caught in the pouring rain on our walk back, he shielded me from the rain with his jacket and I even believe carried me on his back for a portion of the way. On our way home from Nationals in Maryland I remembered I had an English paper due the next day on a book I hadn’t even read yet! Guess who basically wrote it for me?! And I knew after that trip. He literally had all of the qualities I wanted in a significant other and some day a husband and a father for our children. He truly cared about my wants and needs, gave me advice because he wanted the best for me and was willing to help me out in times of need even when it was totally inconvenient for him, I mean really.. who writes papers for another person just because? I knew he was the one, even though I really hadn’t been looking at the time. I just felt so at home with him & couldn’t let him get away!

Groom-to-be: I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Sam just after a few months of dating. Family is my #1 priority and I have a big one. After bringing Sam over to meet my family and seeing how well she just fit , Laughing and joking with my brothers and sister like they were her own siblings along with the respect and love she gave and continues to give to my parents. Thats when I knew Sam would be the woman I married.

Tell Us Your Favorite Thing About Your Future Spouse

Bride-to-be: My favorite things about Adam would probably be how protective he can be towards me and the people he loves. He’ll literally drop anything to help someone. Another thing I love about him and I would absolutely never change is his sense of humor, from his corny jokes to the way he dances.. I literally love it all & can’t ever get enough! I love the fact that he sets goals for himself and for us and will do anything to reach them. Another favorite thing would definitely have to be the fact that I know hands down he will be the best father to our children, he’s going to teach them so many things about life & having fun, he’s going to be there coaching them and cheering them on in sports and pushing them to be the best that they can be academically & that is so important to me. And to end this long list even though I could go on forever, I love that he’s a worry wart. It shows me how much he cares & that means so much! Oh and I lied, another thing that I LOVE that I just had to list is his cooking! Ugh if anyone knows the way to my heart, it’s him! Because food makes me happy and Adam’s got those chef skills for sure!!

Groom-to-be:  As cliche as it sounds, I love everything about Samantha its very hard for me to put in words my favorite things as there are so many.

Tell Us About Your Favorite Memory Together

Bride-to-be: My favorite memory together would definitely have to be one of our days during our South Carolina vacation. We stayed in the Avista Hotel in North Myrtle Beach and there was a day where we literally spent half of the day mini golfing and went out for lunch at Sticky Fingers after. Then we just laid on the beach and swam in the ocean for a few hours and decided to go parasailing after. I had been begging him the entire trip and he finally caved! We rode on a banana boat out to the parasailing boat and it was one of the most thrilling experiences ever, one of the guys on the banana boat with us even flew off of the back! Making me grip Adam even tighter because I did NOT want to be flying into the middle of the ocean with sharks. Being up in the parasail though after had us feeling ecstatic. It was so surreal seeing the school of fish and sea turtles swim by underneath us. And of course my biggest fear are sharks.. so I’m on the lookout the ENTIRE time we’re up there and then I finally came to the realization we weren’t going to see one and just relaxed and had fun with it. As we were being lowered back down to the boat, don’t you know there’s a GIGANTIC hammerhead shark underneath us and I’m hitting Adam while pointing at the shark. We start freaking out, thrashing our arms and legs and screaming to the guy controlling the sail “there’s a shark!! Stop lowering us!!!” And he doesn’t hear us of course and continues to lower us into the water and we’re petrified but safe to say we made it back onto the boat safely. That was just an experience of a lifetime. After getting back to the beach and having our feet in the sand all I could think about was how amazing that moment really was. I was wishing I had brought my phone so maybe I could have captured it but god knows it’s a good thing I didn’t because my phone would have probably been dropped into the ocean. We ended the day with ice cream, pizza and a few drinks and enjoyed the rest of our night!

Groom-to-be: My favorite memory/memories with Samantha was actually the very beginning of our relationship it was the three months that I tried to get this goofy fun pole vaulting chick to like me. I would go out of my way to do things for her just to get noticed. Like shopping for snacks at One in the morning for our meet the next day. To hanging out and watching movies together at the hotel room when we competed at nationals, which was were I finally admitted to her that I liked her. From there on has been nothing but endless amounts of memories that I will forever cherish.

Tell Us About The Proposal

Bride-to-be: It was Thanksgiving Day and we were headed over to my Aunt Debi’s & Uncle Jeff’s house for dinner at 2 with my family. We got there and enjoyed spending time with everyone. Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays, not only because I get to see my entire family but because I can eat amazing food with them the entire time as well. Love it! So we got done eating and Adam turns to me and asks if I can go grab the game “What do you meme?” from my vehicle that he said he put in there that morning so we can all play. So I say yes and run outside and look all over the vehicle and then BAM. I get suspicious and start thinking “hmm is this it? Is Adam finally going to pop the question?” But I’d literally been asking myself that at every special occasion or vacation for the past 2 years! Like I was waiting for it or something! Lol. So I have the biggest smirk on my face that I could not wipe off and I slowly make my way into the house and my entire family is standing in a circle in the family room with their phones out and Adam is standing in the middle of them and starts to say what he is thankful for. My heart was racing!!! I started thinking of ridiculous things like “what am I supposed to do with my hands?” “Am I going to start bawling?” But I kept my composure! He started off by saying he was thankful for me, thankful for my family (which melted my heart) and continued to get down on one knee and said he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me & asks “will you marry me?”. I’m fumbling with my hands and awkwardly grabbing at his hands, didn’t know what to do at all! I’d thought I would have been prepared for this! I clearly wasn’t. But I still loved every moment of it. I whispered in his ear “yes, hunny”. And he stands up and puts the ring on my finger and gives me a bear hug! The sweetest hug I’ve ever felt! (Well second to my hugs from my poppy, I love & miss you so much poppy bear! I know you’re with us in every step of our wedding planning, I can always feel your presence. I only wish you were physically here with us! I know you would just LOVE Adam, he’s literally perfect)! So we’re hugging still and I hear someone ask, “well?! What was your answer?!” I wasn’t even thinking that since I whispered yes to Adam, no one else could hear my answer and I left everyone hanging!! I laughed and said “yes!! Of course!” I look around and relatives are crying, I’m getting emotional. Best moment of my life. It’s everything I could have wished for. I am so impressed with him and his proposal. He literally knew how to make it perfect for me by incorporating my family, it was just so special!!! The next half an hour was filled with celebration and hugging of family members. We then rushed over to see his family to share the exciting news! & I simply cannot wait to be a Stevens!!! I feel so honored to soon be part of such a big, amazing family!

Groom-to-be: I proposed to Sam on Thanksgiving day in front of her family. Im really bad at keeping secrets so it wasn’t much of a surprise to anyone (even Sam). I came up with a lame excuse to try and get Sam out of the room so I sent her to the car to get a card game. As she walked out I gathered her family together( who   Already had the biggest smiles / crying ) as Sam walked back into the room I said how thankful I was for Sam and her family and attempted to give her the ring, but Sam was so excited she didn’t know what to do with her hands, so it took me a little bit to get it on the right finger.

Aren’t they the SWEETEST!? Ugh. Melt my heart!

If you like seeing engagements, see some more here!

Otherwise, Until next time!
XOXO
