How My Prince Charming Asked Me to Marry Him

Once a upon time there lived a spunky young shutterbug who was obsessed with good old fashioned romance. Yes, that young lassie was and is me. My dreams consisted of someone stealing me a blue french horn, someone thrusting their first into the air because they knew they got me, someone who holds a boombox outside my bedroom window, and someone who I’ll miss so much that when they’re not around, I’ll create a marshpillow.

Well I met him. And I’ll tell ya what, from the second I met him, I knew. There was just something about him that made me think “I’m gonna marry him.”

Now as I’ve already said, I’ve always loved love. I already had a wedding Pinterest board created for every season. As for the proposal, all I cared about was that I had no idea. I didn’t want to see it coming at ALL. I wanted to be completely in the dark. And that my friends, is exactly what happened.

It was like any old evening in our house. I had just gone for a run, showered, and decided I wanted to eat back all the calories I just burned in chocolate- you know, normal stuff. The only problem was I had nothing chocolate to eat. So my sweet (then boyfriend) Dan nodded along as I was chatting about my stomach the Chocolate Monster and continued to ask me about my day etc. etc. over dinner.

Yes, I refer to my stomach as the Chocolate Monster

After dinner he asked me if I’d like to “front porch sit.” My answer to this is ALWAYS yes. I love sitting on the front porch as much as every 90’s girl loves the backstreet boys. (c’mon, secretly we all do.) He told me he just had to run out to his truck to grab his phone charger quick but he’d be right out. So on my way I went, jammies, wet hair messy bun, chocolate craving tummy and all. I was waiting for him on the front porch when he called me back inside.

As I walked into the living room I heard him saying “I have Molly traps for you!” I saw him standing there with my all time favorite brownies in his hand! UGHHH I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!! (Is what I’m thinking at this moment.) (Side note: Molly traps are gluten free brownies a local store of ours sells. Fun fact about myself, I have NO self control over chocolate. Dan would buy me a couple at a time but I would always end up falling face first, mouth open onto the brownies and they’d all be gone sub 30 minutes.. it was a problem. So as a result he would (and still does) either hide them on me, or surprise me ever so rarely with some. Ok now back to the story!) So there he was, standing with two Molly traps in hand and I was so pumped! I LOVED when Dan surprised me with a Molly trap. I thanked him, gave him a kiss and went to take them from him. That’s when I noticed what was underneath..

This is my favorite part of the story

I was really confused at first seeing something shiny, round, and beautiful under my already beautifully wrapped dessert. Honestly, I must’ve looked like an idiot because I just remember staring as he started getting down on one knee. I was so shocked and I couldn’t even process what was happening. I mean, we were just being us, doing our normal thing. It wasn’t a holiday, we were just home, in jammies, hanging out like any other night.

I remember looking at him down there and I just started to cry I was so excited! If you asked me what he said, I honestly have no idea, all I remember is saying “YES!” I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal. He took an ordinary night in our house with one of our special, silly, traditions and made it even more special. Now, Molly traps are even more special to me than they were before.

All my cute engagement announcement ideas that I had saved on Pinterest went out the window when I snapped this crazy pic and sent it to all my closest friends and family!

& then we shared a bottle of wine we still had from the first night we ever hung out and that was that!

A little about me and if I’m being honest, the excitement captured in the above photograph, how I felt right after we got engaged, is still how excited I get when I hear other people are engaged and I get to hear their story. There’s just nothing better than love!
